From P-Block of Bien Nacido Vineyard, our merlot is full bodied and intense, much like the great merlots of Pomerol. It is extremely dark in color, with subdued blackberry fruit and a long finish. We have always made it in this style - we do not believe in wimpy merlots! We have produced merlot since 1980, and have used this block every year since 1984. Grown in clay loam, the wine has the characteristic Bien Nacido smokiness, with concentrated fruit and enough tannins to age for many years. It is quite different from most California merlots.
